A Review of One of the Worst Blunders in Filmmaking History: John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars

Film & TV

Is it possible that Pam Greer being in Ghosts of Mars is both the best thing it has going for it – and somehow, the worst? This question (and a myriad of others), need to be posed to filmmaker John Carpenter. Of course, it would still be mandatory to heap uber-amounts of praise on him for his many other successful and groundbreaking projects. Then I would demand an in-depth explanation on the filmmaking process of Ghosts of Mars. Like a car-wreck, it’s hard to not want to know how it happened.

Palm Springs or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Loop

Film & TV

Palm Springs is a sci-fi romantic comedy, directed by Mark Barbakow (in his directorial debut) – the screenplay was written by Andy Siara and co-produced by Andy Samberg under his production company ‘The Lonely Island’. The movie is a spiritual successor to Groundhog Day (1993) and Andy Samberg has given Bill Murray and Harold Ramis credit for at least in-part inspiring Palm Springs[2], admittedly the film is Siara and Samberg’s take on the niche sub-genre.

Palm Springs however turns out to be a refreshing take on the concept. Andy Samberg turns in a performance that shows off his natural acting talent and his ability to provide emotional depth that resonates with the viewer. This isn’t something we see from him often, his other roles usually focus on humor alone.

The Prestige (A Film by Christopher Nolan)

Film & TV

The Prestige is an eloquently crafted piece by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. It is about the struggles and tribulations of two rival magicians (played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, respectively) who begin as peers, but quickly become mired in each other’s lives. We watch as they perpetually worsen their relationship – through a habitual pattern of deceit, one-ups man-ship, and unabated jealousy. Until in the end they become mortal enemies; hell-bent on destroying one an other’s legacy.

Last Voyage of the Demeter – Review & Analysis

Film & TV

Some have called this film lack-luster.

I believe that is an overly descriptive word to use for a film like this. ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ in my opinion is simply ‘meh’.

Going in, there is hope that this movie may amount to more than a cheap imitation of cherished horror films from the past. The nostalgia bait with this release is glaringly obvious, and you want to know what the worst part is?
